Man Killed In Deputy Involved Shooting In East LA

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — One man was killed Sunday in a deputy-involved shooting in East Los Angeles, and a search was underway for two more suspects.

The incident unfolded about 2 a.m. when deputies responded to a call of a armed robbery in the 500 Block of Colonia De Las Magnolias.

When deputies arrive, the victim told police that the individuals who robbed him had run toward an apartment complex.

When deputies entered the complex, they saw a group of men, who took off running when they approached.

But one of the men fell to the ground. As deputies approached him, a struggle ensued.

Deputies say, at one point, they thought the man was reaching for his waistband which is when deputies opened fire.

The man was struck by a bullet, and died. He was believed to be in his 20s.

No deputies were hurt.

Those who live in the complex called relatives of the man they believed had been shot to report the incident.

"I think the hard part is not knowing," said Lisa Vargas, a mother. "I have faith. I believe in God. I have my whole church and a lot of the community praying for us right now. But once again, if it is not my child, it's going to be someone else's child."

She was still waiting to hear if the person involved was her son Sunday afternoon.

Authorities have stated that a weapon was found on the man, who died at the scene. He has not been identified but was believed to be in his 20s.

The shooting remains under investigation.
