Young Mother Found Murdered In Westminster Hotel

WESTMINSTER (CBSLA) – A Southern California mother in her 20s was found killed in a hotel room in Westminster Monday night.

At around 11 p.m. Monday, Westminster police officers conducted a welfare check at a room on the second floor of the Quality Inn & Suites, located in the 6600 block of Westminster Boulevard, where they discovered the body of the victim. The welfare check was conducted at the behest of worried family members.

"It was unusual, and it sparked the family's concern, enough to call us and check on her," police Cmdr. Cameron Knauerhaze told CBS2.

After conducting an initial investigation, officers determined the woman had likely been the victim of a homicide, police said. There was no word on a cause of death or a motive. Her name was not released. Several guests told CBS2 they did not hear anything out of the ordinary.

Police said the woman checked into the hotel sometime this week.  Investigators are examining surveillance video from the hotel, police said. The hotel did not have security guards.

The victim's family and friends collected her belongings from the hotel Tuesday morning.

"I just hope that if anybody knows anything, that they'll come forward, because at the end of the day, she was somebody's daughter, sister, and she was well loved," a friend of the victim told CBS2.
