Broken Water Main Frustrates Reseda Residents

RESEDA (CBSLA.com) — A broken water main left a Reseda neighborhood without water Wednesday night.

DWP crews said it would take until midnight to get the leak fixed after they shut the water off about 6 p.m.

Water was gushing out of the street, sending thousands of gallons down the drain and creating a big sink hole.

"I guess I'm just going to have to go out and go shopping for water," said homeowner Helen Ramos.

DWP said the six-inch pipe was 66 years old and most likely burst from old age.

"All the flooding. All the water rushing out. All this muddy stuff," said homeowner Scarlet Acevedo.

The broken main left 41 homes without water as crews fixed the broken pipe. On a muggy night, neighbors said that's a problem.

"It's an inconvenience for the family," said homeowner Sam Issa. "I have my wife, son, daughter. They come from work, and you have to have water."

As crews worked into the night, neighbors said they're used to it as there have been several broken water mains in the area recently.

Ramos said the city's old infrastructure is testing her patience.

"It's frustrating," she said. "But what can you do? Just wait until they fix it."
