Former Science Teacher Convicted Of Having Sex With Teen In His Classroom

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — A former science teacher was convicted Thursday for having sex with an underage female student inside his classroom.

Alvar Albert Gonzales, 46, of Santa Ana pleaded guilty to one felony count each of unlawful sexual intercourse and possession and control of child pornography.

Gonzales is scheduled for sentencing Aug. 25 at the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana.

He faces a maximum sentence of three years and eight months in state prison. Gonzales must also register as a lifetime sex offender.

Gonzales was a science teacher at Santa Ana High School. Officials said he also ran an anime club which included students outside of his science classes.

On "several" occasions between September 1, 2013 and June 20, 2014, Gonzales met with a female teen and had sexual relations with her n his classroom.

Authorities said on one occasion he recorded a sexually explicit video of the victim.

Late in December 2014, another student reported possible inappropriate contact by Gonzales and an investigation was launched.

Gonzales was arrested in September 2015.
