LAGUNA NIGUEL (CBSLA.com) – Firefighters made quick work of a two-acre vegetation fire Thursday in a residential section of Laguna Niguel.

The blaze broke out before noon in the area of Via Catalina and Via Del Agua, according to the Orange County Fire Authority.

About 50 residents were asked out of some townhouses as a precaution, but were expected to return shortly, authorities said.

There was no word on a cause.

This fire was caused by a crew from Douglas Landscaping which was hired to remove dried grass and brush from the hillside. Apparently, the machine they were using to clear the hillside created a spark which started the fire. Ideally, I think machines like this should not be used in the future in order to prevent this kind of ignition source. Removing fuel by hand may take longer but it is clearly less dangerous.
