LAPD Officers Fatally Shoot Man Taunting Them With A Gun

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — LAPD officers shot a man to death after he was holding a gun to his head and taunting police Wednesday night, investigators said.

The confrontation escalated while officers encountered a 40-year-old known gang member on a routine patrol in the Westlake District which is west of downtown. The fatal shooting occurred at Witmer Street and W. 3rd Street at about 7  p.m.

Witnesses say the man had a gun pointed at his head and was egging officers on yelling: "shoot me, shoot me."

The officers used rubber bullets until they felt threatened and then used lethal force, investigators said.
