Surfers In Malibu Up The Thrill By Surfing At Night

MALIBU (CBSLA.com) — It's not easy for a sport that depends on seeing the right wave at the right time. But now surfers in Malibu are upping the adrenaline rush by surfing after dark.

Surfers have to use the moonlight to help see waves break, and they can't see if a shark gets too close. But that's all part of the thrill, they say.

A former night surfer now makes boards with LED lights built into them. He says the lights make the ocean look like a painting, but they are mainly for safety to signal his position to other surfers.
