Man Shot To Death in CVS Parking Lot In Palms

PALMS (CBSLA.com) – A man was shot and killed in the parking lot of a CVS store in the neighborhood of Palms Friday evening.

At around 8 p.m., Los Angeles police responded to a shots fired call at a parking lot in the 3000 block of South Sepulveda Boulevard. Officers arrived to find a man with gunshot wounds. He died before Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics arrived on scene.

"Everyone started going outside to see what was going on," said Nancy Lopez, who works inside the nearby Vons supermarket.

Investigators are searching for a male suspect in connection with the shooting who fled in a dark-colored compact SUV, police said. Witnesses described the suspect as having an olive-skinned complexion. Police were attempting to gather security video from the parking lot that may help with the case.

A woman who works inside one of the surrounding stores told KCAL9 that an officer informed her she would have to keep her vehicle in the parking lot overnight because it was part of the crime scene. She had to use a ride-sharing service to get home.

"He said, 'if you have a car here, you can't take your car, your car has to stay here overnight because it's considered a crime scene,'" Tajohnna Matthews said.

The identity of the victim was not immediately confirmed.
