Police: Driver On Cell Phone Hits 3 Pedestrians In Del Rey

DEL RAY (CBSLA.com) – Three pedestrians were injured when they were struck by a driver on her cell phone in Del Rey Sunday night, police said.

The collision occurred before 8:12 p.m. in the 1300 block of Maxella Avenue. The victims, all adults, were taken by ambulance to nearby hospitals, Los Angeles police reported. All are expected to survive.

Police said the pedestrians were in a crosswalk when a female driver on her cell phone ran a red light and struck them. The driver remained at the scene. Alcohol was not believed to be a factor.

The exact circumstances of the crash were still under investigation. No names were released. It was not immediately clear if the driver would face charges.
