Electrical Power Outages Affect Los Angeles Airport, Surrounding Area

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles International Airport says terminal operations are returning to normal following power outages Sunday night.

Crews are investigating the cause of the problem, which originated among several transformers.

Airport spokeswoman Nancy Castles says no flight cancellations were reported, but some flights were delayed up to an hour.

She says the outages occurred shortly after 7 p.m. PST and affected the central terminal area as well as some areas near the airport.

Castles says in a statement issued at 10 p.m. that airlines reported that almost all their operations were fully functioning.

She says that some baggage handling systems were just partially operational, but air traffic control, passenger screening and nearly all auto traffic lights were working normally.

Castles says that after the outages hit, it took about one hour for computers, security equipment, and conveyances to be restored.
