2 ID Theft Suspects Captured in Colton

COLTON (CBSLA.com) – A man and woman were taken into custody this week in the city of Colton in San Bernardino County on accusations they stole thousands of dollars from innocent victims through mail and identity theft.

Frankie Gonzalez, 26, of Moreno Valley and Ashley Casada, 28, of Riverside were apprehended after their vehicle was stopped by Colton police Tuesday morning for a traffic violation at La Cadena and Valley Boulevard.

According to police, during the traffic stop, Casada gave a fake name and was determined to be wanted on two active felony warrants for identity theft and possession of stolen property.

Following the arrests, police discovered business checks from San Bernardino made out to Casada. Police reported that one of the alleged victims, a Colton resident, told investigators his mail was diverted and thousands of dollars were taken from his accounts.

Police did not specify the exact number of victims or the amount of stolen money linked to the two suspects.

Both were booked on charges of forgery, use of identification with intent to defraud and receiving known stolen property.
