Arrest Made In Boy's Fatal Hit-And-Run Accident

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities announced Monday they have made an arrest in the tragic death of 5-year-old Luis Sanchez who was pinned underneath a car that crashed into his South L.A. bedroom on December 1.

Jorge Ruiz-Garcia turned himself in on Friday. He's now out on bail after being booked for hit and run for causing another car to crash into the apartment.

The break came after a grainy security video showed a Chevy Cruze that slammed into the apartment had tried to avoid a Saab that suddenly made a U-turn.

The Chevy went out of control and accidentally crashed through the wall of the boy's bedroom near Central Avenue and 28th street. The driver of the Saab took off.

Police identified the driver of the Saab as 28-year-old Ruiz-Garcia after they tracked him down from a piece of his car's grill that was left at the crash scene.

The boy's parents and three other children were also injured in the crash.

The driver of the Chevy, a 23-year-old woman, is also facing criminal charges.
