Dramatic Footage Captures Bus Erupting In Flames As High As 30 Feet In The Air

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A large fire broke out on a bus in downtown Los Angeles, sending flames 30 feet in the air this weekend.

No one was on the bus when the flames broke out about 11:30 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of 15th and San Pedro streets.

Firefighters say the driver was a break at the time, and when he returned, smelled something electrical burning.

That's when the bus erupted in flames.

First responders say, when the fire reached the natural gas tank, it exploded multiple times.

The compressed natural gas bus appears to be owned and operated by American Transportation Systems.

Authorities say it had been converted from an MTA bus for private use.

It remains unclear where the bus originated from, or where it was heading
