SANTA CLARITA (CBSLA.com) — Police chased a driver suspected of stealing a Mercedes from West Los Angles all the way to Santa Clarita until he crashed into freeway pylons.

Police say the driver was armed and was wanted for grand theft auto. He led police on chase though most of the west side neighborhoods of Los Angeles. It then went north on the 405, 5 and 14 freeways where it ended in Santa Clarita.

The driver did not appear to be seriously hurt as he came out of the car on his own power with his hands up and was arrested without further incident.

The end of the pursuit backed up freeway traffic significantly.
