Construction Worker Impaled By Rebar In Downtown Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A construction worker was impaled by rebar Tuesday at a downtown Los Angeles construction site.

Firefighters responded about 3:05 p.m. to the multi-story construction site at 825 S. Hill St., where the 27-year-old worker was impaled through the body by at least two pieces of inch-thick rebar, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Firefighters cut the rebar and used a construction crane and rescue basket to lower the critically injured man, still impaled, 20 feet to the street so he could be taken to a hospital, Humphrey said.

The man, who was not immediately identified, was knocked onto the rebar when something fell onto him, Humphrey said.
