LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — More than 4,000 underprivileged children received new athletic shoes Thursday during a back-to-school giveaway in downtown Los Angeles.

The Fred Jordan Mission's 28th annual giveaway began at 9 a.m., located at the corner of Towne Avenue and East 5th Street.

In addition to free shows from Foot Locker, children received new clothing, backpacks filled with school supplies, In-N-Out burgers and Paul Mitchell hair cuts.

The Mission, which has been open every day since 1944, has provided more than 140,000 children with new attire since its first giveaway.
