Man Dies After Officers Use Taser To Subdue Him In Burbank Standoff

BURBANK (CBSLA.com) — Los Angeles County prosecutors Wednesday investigated the death of a man who died after police stunned him with a Taser during a standoff in Burbank.

The incident unfolded around 6:20 p.m. Tuesday in the 500 block of North Mariposa Street when officers responded to reports of a man making criminal threats in the area.

According to police, the man, who was in his 60s, confronted the officers outside of the home. An officer activated his Taser to subdue him, causing the man to collapse.

Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene after unsuccessfully rendering treatment. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.

A second man then came to the door, armed with a handgun, and threatened police.

Authorities then pulled back and took cover.

A standoff subsequently began when the man refused to exit the house.

About 40 minutes later, he surrendered to police and was taken into custody.

CBS2's Kara Finnstrom reported the men were brothers.

The incident remains under investigation.
