Students Concerned After Attempted Kidnapping Of Female Near CSUN

NORTHRIDGE (CBSLA.com) — Police are searching for a man who tried to kidnap a Cal State University Northridge student just off campus around 3:40 p.m. Tuesday.

Authorities said the man grabbed a female student from behind in a bear hug as she walked along Dearborn Street, near a Subway restaurant.

"It was kind of crazy, especially how close it was to where we live," student Anelly Perez said

The man told the victim that if she kept screaming, he would kill her. The student fought by kicking and punching until she was able to run away, police said.

"It was shocking how we didn't hear anything," Perez added.

CSUN police say the man was seen on campus Monday at the Oviatt Library by the female victim. Now they want all students to be on the lookout for the man described as white, 25 to 30 years old, about 6-foot-5 with short black hair. He has a tattoo on his right arm that possibly spells a name.

"Next time, I will walk with my friends together to avoid that situation," student Crystal Liu said.

Some students say they're concerned because they're getting alerts of more crime on and off campus.

"Recently, there was someone who got attacked in the parking structure," student Marco Torres said. "Now this attempted kidnapping, last year, there were guns being pulled on students on the actual campus."
