Pomona Man Gets Life In Prison For Murdering Girlfriend, Cutting Her Heart Out

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A 28-year-old Pomona man was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the brutal murder of his girlfriend in 2014.

Alexander Anthony Clever, pleaded no contest on July 25 to one count of first-degree murder in the slaying of Yvette Silva, who police say was still alive when two major organs were cut from her body.

Clever and Silva were heard arguing in a motel bathroom on Nov. 29, 2014. Two other people who had accompanied the couple to the motel heard muffled screaming, then saw Clever holding an unconscious Silva in a chokehold.

Prosecutors say the companions tried to free Silva and went to get help. But when police responded to the scene, they found Silva in the shower with her heart and her right lung removed from her body. Authorities said she was still alive when her lung was cut out.

Clever was arrested outside his house two days later. Prosecutors say police found a knife on him that was later tested and found to have Silva's DNA on it.
