'Snowden' Hits The Big Screen One Day After New Congressional Report Is Released

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — One day after the House Intelligence Committee released a new report slamming the actions of the now-exiled former national security agency contractor Edward Snowden, the highly anticipated docudrama "Snowden" is now out in theaters.

U.S. representative Adam Schiff of Burbank helped oversee the report which described the 33-year-old as a misportrayed truth-seeking whisteblower.

"We've been working on this for two years before I think any of us even knew there was a film in the works," Schiff said.

The findings show Snowden was disgruntled employee who compromised the intelligence community's anti-terror efforts and endangered the American people.

Snowden tweeted this before the film's release:

The biopic is from director Oliver Stone, who has long been known for his politically charged films.

Critics say Snowden is misportrayed as an American hero in the film.
