FIDM Students Create High Fashion Designs With Everyday Items From 99 Cents Store
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) students recently created four fashion-inspired designs using items sold at 99 Cents Only stores.
Each student was randomly assigned to a category -- household supplies, party supplies, food packaging and Halloween products -- to use as a theme for their design.
The following products were used to produce each design:
— Party Supplies (#99ItsTimeToParty): neon bows, neon ribbon, streamers, plastic table covers and a centerpiece
— Household Supplies (#99Petals): kitchen sponges, dish towels, appliance cleaners, dusters, faux flowers and facial sponges
— Halloween Products (#99Nightmares): black faux roses, spider web lace table runners, bat wings, orange and purple faux flower bouquets and floral stems
— Food Packaging (#99PoundsLater): Arizona Iced Tea, Twix, Captain Crunch, breadsticks and Three Musketeers
"This visual design challenge presents a unique experience for our visual communications students to apply skills learned within their curriculum to a real world design opportunity," said Cynthia Patino, Director of FIDM Visual Communications. "Students will see their design concepts brought to life and showcased in a public venue."
The designs will remain on display until Sept. 22 at the 99 Cents Only store, located at 11040 W. Pico Boulevard.
