Smoke Shop Goes Up In Flames In Little Tokyo

LOS ANGELES  (CBSLA.com) — A spectacular fire lit up the downtown area of Little Tokyo when a smoke shop caught fire around 8:15 Monday night.

Los Angeles firefighters battled the blaze that started on the second floor of Smoke Tokes, a store that sell pipes and other smoking accessories, in the 200 block of South San Pedro Street, near Third Street.

KCAL9's Stu Mundel was in Sky9 showing flames erupting from the roof. No injuries were reported.

Authorities said the store contained flammable materials like lighters and matches that began exploding, causing intense heat and flames.  Firefighters were forced to evacuate and turn to defensive tactics before knocking down the fire.

About a 130 firefighters attacked the blaze and finally got a handle on it around 10 p.m.

The cause is still under investigation.
