Driver Of Stolen SUV Arrested At End Of OC Pursuit

ANAHEIM  (CBSLA.com) — Police from Fullerton and Anaheim chased a suspect in a stolen vehicle back and forth between the two cities Sunday night for over an hour, before arresting the man near a gas station.

Though there were many close calls, there were no injuries.

The chase began about 8:30 p.m.

The driver waved his arm out the window several times, and it appeared he may have been carrying a weapon.

Police followed the driver down busy thoroughfares like Harbor Boulevard and Orangethorpe Avenue, as he blew through a number of red lights, drove the wrong way against traffic and nearly hit several vehicles head-on.

The driver got on the westbound 91 freeway at about 9:10 p.m., got back on surface streets, then returned to the 91.

He's at the wheel of a Honda CRV, and hit speeds up to 70 mph on city streets. The driver appeared to be alone in the vehicle, and seemed to know his way around the area.

At about 9:30 p.m., the driver turned off the vehicles headlights briefly, then criss-crossed freeway on-ramps and surface streets.

The chase ended in Anaheim at 9:40 p.m., when the driver bailed out of the vehicle and ran near the intersection of Magnolia Street and Lincoln Avenue. With guns drawn, police got the man on the ground about a minute later and arrested him.
