Reporter Goes In Search Of People Trying To Stay Cool On Triple-Digit Temperature Day

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com)   —  All around the Southland Sunday the emphasis was on the sun part.

Temperatures soared in many places -- many of them surpassing triple digits.

CBS2's Greg Mills was out-and-about searching for people trying to keep cool.

He saw one family in Woodland Hills who weren't letting the heat change their plans.

Mills saw people running, riding bikes, even playing soccer. Joseph Fondergne was out setting up for a family birthday celebration.

"It is really hot today," Fondergne said.

That's an understatement. The temperature read 102 before noon.

That gave Carol Neilsen 102 reasons to drive to 31 flavors, aka Baskin-Robbins.

A cool chocolate shake, whipped up by Kevin, did the trick.

"This is wonderful -- on a hot day or a cold day, it's the best," said Neilsen

The Brown family of Temecula noticed it was already in the 90s by late morning. They came to Santa Monica to try to find some cool breezes -- and visit family.

The Santa Monica Pier, of course, was a popular place to be. It was packed with people.

The Kahar family, from England, enjoyed the cooler and cloudy weather. They told Mills they didn't want to leave.

"The weather is fantastic. We never have weather like that. I like the weather so much I feel like staying one week more," said Bhuben Kahar.
