Man Killed, Another Wounded In West Covina Party Shooting

WEST COVINA (CBSLA.com)  —  A 21-year-old man was killed and another person was wounded in a shooting at a house party in West Covina, police said today.

The 21-year-old man was later identified as Jose Melendez, according to Lt. Dave Smith of the coroner's office.

Smith said he had no place of residence for Melendez.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire and partygoers running at 10:32 p.m. Friday in the 800 block of East Michelle Street, according to Lt. Travis Tibbetts of the West Covina Police Department.
First arriving officers said witnesses reported that gunfire was coming from the rear yard of a home, West Covina police reported.

Officers found two male victims.

Melendez was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Tibbetts.

The other victim was taken to County-USC Medical Center. His condition and age were not immediately available.
