Attorney General Opens Investigation Regarding California Gas Prices

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Consumer Watchdog President Jamie Court says that oil companies are wholesaling gas at prices that are the lowest in the nation, while at the same time, prices at the pump in California are the highest in the nation.

"The fact that we have the lowest wholesale price for gasoline and the highest retail price for gasoline means that oil refiners are ripping us off," Court said

"The attorney general should march into court and try to stop it immediately," he added.

The trade group that represents oil companies in the Western United States has responded with a written statement saying, "Repeated investigations and independent analysis have consistently demonstrated that market factors are the primary driver of fuel costs in California."

The California attorney general has launched an investigation into oil prices in the state, but in the meantime, prices at the pump will continue to be the highest in the nation.
