Search Continues In Backyard Of Santa Ana Home Where Human Bones Were Uncovered

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com)   —  Authorities were back digging Friday in the backyard of a Santa Ana home looking for human remains where two bones were found.

Officials believe the remains were placed in the backyard and covered with cement more than three decades ago.

It's taken all day yet anthropologists from the Orange County Coroner's Office have only sifted through a small section of the back yard at the house on South Center Street in Santa Ana -- square about 4 feet by 4 feet.

"It's weird," one neighbor told CBS2's Michele Gile.

Police say it's a slow, painstaking task that will last through the weekend. And no one is commenting on whether any additional bones or evidence have been found.

Adrian Bustamonte's grandmother lives a few doors away.

"Makes me feel,,,nervous because there can be a criminal from 30 years ago that hasn't passed away," said Bustamonte.

Homicide detectives were tipped off earlier this week by an informant that a body was buried here more than three  decades ago.

The current homeowner confirms that two leg bones and a large knife were discovered by workers hired to work on his yard a decade ago, but the evidence was thrown away. Investigators are trying to solve the mystery of what happened and who may have been hidden here.

"Who is it? Is it older people? Or an adult or kids. How did it happen?," said one neighbor.

The homeowners told Gile they are relieved the police are finally investigating and possibly removing the human remains as they have always felt "a presence" in their backyard.
