Man Suspected Of Attempted Rape After Climbing In Teen Girl's Bedroom Window

FONTANA (CBSLA.com) — A man who climbed into a teenage girl's bedroom in the middle of the night faces charges of burglary and attempted rape.

Armando Contreras, 50, was arrested and booked at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, Fontana police Sgt. Brian Heaviside said in a statement.

Officers were called out to the 11000 block of Oleander Avenue at about 12:56 a.m. to investigate a report of a man inside the caller's 16-year-old daughter's bedroom. Contreras was detained a short distance from the home, and he was identified as the man who had been inside her bedroom.

Police said Contreras had been staying with relatives several doors down from the family and engaged in casual conversation with the girl earlier in the day. He had gone out drinking, and saw the girl's window had been left open for ventilation when he came back, according to police.

After he climbed through the window, the girl woke up, saw him standing over her and started screaming, police said. The screaming startled Contreras, who then climbed back out the bedroom window and was detained by police a few minutes later, Heaviside said.
