LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A dancer who won the fourth season of “So You Think You Can Dance” was charged with domestic violence, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Joshua Demon Allen, 27, of North Hollywood, is scheduled to make his first court appearance Thursday on two felony counts of willfully injuring a girlfriend after a prior conviction and a felony count of assault with a deadly weapon, a glass vase. He was also charged with two misdemeanor counts of disobeying a domestic relations criminal protective order and a misdemeanor count each of simple battery and vandalism under $400.
Allen was previously convicted on a misdemeanor count of willfully injuring a girlfriend on Jan. 13. A judge had issued a protective order prohibiting Allen from communicating with her.
The District Attorney’s Office say prosecutors will ask for bail to be set at $270,000.
Prosecutors say Allen was already facing charges for assaulting and strangling the same girlfriend on April 13 when he allegedly attacked her again on June 19, chasing her into a coffee shop she ran into for help. Allen allegedly threw a glass vase at a woman who tried to help her and attacked a man who also tried to intervene, according to prosecutors.
The criminal complaint alleges Allen then vandalized the coffee shop until he was subdued by bystanders.
Besides winning the reality TV dance show, Allen has also appeared in films as a dancer, including “Step Up 3D” and the 2011 remake of “Footloose.”
If convicted as charged, Allen faces a possible maximum sentence of more than 10 years in state prison.
