Chaka Khan Checks Herself Into Rehab For Prescription Drug Addiction

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Singer Chaka Khan says the death of her good friend, Prince, has led her to check herself into a rehabilitation program.

The 63-year-old Grammy-winning singer says she is battling an addiction to fentanyl, the same prescription painkiller that killed Prince.

Khan is expected to postpone all summer concert days scheduled for the month of July, but will resume recording mid-July and begin performances on Aug. 1.

"Chaka has struggled with a dependence on prescription pain medications and has voluntarily entered the program to get healthy and stay that way," according to a statement posted to Khan's official website.

Late afternoon Sunday, she took to Twitter to thank her supporters, saying: "Thank you EVERYONE 4 your well wishes."

Khan said she reevaluated her priorities and decided to take action to save her life following Prince's death.

She will go through the program with her sister, who also checked herself into the rehabilitation program.
