O'Sullivan Helps Red Sox Bounce Back, Beat Angels 10-5

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Hanley Ramirez and Sandy Leon hit two-run doubles as Boston scored seven runs with two outs in the fifth inning, and the Red Sox rebounded from a drubbing by beating the Los Angeles Angels 10-5 Sunday.

A day after Boston lost 21-2 and allowed 22 hits, Sean O'Sullivan (2-0) held the Angels scoreless into the sixth and allowed two runs and four hits in five innings. Signed to a minor league contract in December, the 28-year-old right-hander was recalled from Triple-A before the game to make his third start with Boston.

He didn't allow a runner to reach third in the first five innings and was replaced by Matt Barnes after consecutive singles opening the sixth. Kole Calhoun and Albert Pujols hit RBI doubles around Mike Trout's run-scoring single.

Ramirez had three hits and Leon drove in three for the Red Sox, who took two of three from Los Angeles.

Matt Shoemaker (3-9) allowed five runs and nine hits in 4 2/3 innings. Yunel Escobar had four hits and two RBIs for the Angels, who have lost 11 of 13.

C.J. Cron went hitless in four at-bats after going 6 for 6 with two homers and five RBIs in Saturday's 21-2 win.

David Ortiz's RBI double to the triangle in center pushed the Red Sox in front. Ramirez followed with his slicing hit to right before scoring on Jackie Bradley Jr.'s single for a 4-0 lead.

Jose Alvarez gave up Leon's double off the Green Monster. Leon scored when left fielder Jefry Marte overran the ball for an error on Marco Hernandez's single.

TRAINER'S ROOM

Angels: 3B Escobar played his second straight game after missing seven in a row because of a tender left knee.

Red Sox: 3B Travis Shaw was given the day off. Hernandez started in his place and had two singles.

TO THE 'PEN

Angels manager Mike Scioscia demoted LHP Jhoulys Chacin (2-5, 6.11 ERA) to the bullpen. The lefty has lost his last three starts, giving up 14 runs in 11 1/3 innings. Scioscia said his turn will be taken by RHP Nick Tropeano, who will be recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday to start against Tampa Bay. The righty was sent down following his recovery from a shoulder injury.

NICE GRAB

Bradley made a running over-the-shoulder catch on Escobar's drive in the third and doubled up Jett Bandy at second for an inning-ending double play.

UP NEXT

Angels: Tropeano (3-2) is expected to face Tampa Bay's LHP Matt Moore (4-5, 4.67) when the teams open a four-game series.

Red Sox: Rick Porcello (9-2) looks to remain unbeaten this season at Fenway Park when Boston hosts Texas and RHP Nick Martinez (1-1, 5.00) on Monday. Porcello is 6-0 in seven starts.
