AAA: 3M Southland Residents Will Travel Over Fourth Of July Weekend

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — More than three million people are expected to travel over the Fourth of July holiday weekend, authorities said Friday.

According to the Automobile Club of Southern California, the top five destinations are San Diego, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Santa Barbara and Yosemite.

A record 1.2 million travelers are scheduled to pass through Los Angeles International Airport.

Nearly 265,000 people will travel through LAX Friday, which is expected to be the busiest travel day.

Airport officials have urged passengers to allow for plenty of time to reach terminals, get through security and make it to the gate as extra security precautions will be in force in the wake of the deadly bombing attack at an airport in Istanbul.

Travelers are also urged to use public transportation, including FlyAway buses, to travel to the airport to save time.

According to the Auto Club, 2.41 million people are expected to drive to their destinations.

The holiday travel period runs through Tuesday.
