Some Evacuations Lifted In San Gabriel Complex Fire

DUARTE (CBSLA.com) — Residents of 534 homes forced out by the San Gabriel Complex Fire have been allowed to return home Wednesday.

People, who live north of Royal Oaks Drive, east of Greenbank Avenue and west of Encanto Parkway in Duarte, could come home.

No livestock are allowed back for at least 24 hours. But small pets such as dogs and cats can return home, officials said.

But those living in 326 homes north of Royal Oaks Drive, West of Tocino Drive, and East of Mount Olive Road in Azusa remain evacuated.

The blaze broke out as two separate fires Sunday and Monday - Fish and Reservoir fires . A day later, they merged to become the San Gabriel Complex Fire, which remains at 10 percent contained after scorching 4,900 acres.

According to officials, 69 people have been evacuated from Camp Williams, Heather Flats, Burro Canyon, Crystal Lake and Cold Brook.

The Red Cross has set up an evacuation center at the Duarte Community Center at 1600 Huntington Drive.

Large animals and pets are being kept at the Fairplex in Pomona.

A smoke advisory remains in effect for parts of the San Gabriel Valley and the Inland Empire.
