Woman, Child Found Dead Inside Burning SUV In Willowbrook Park

WILLOWBROOK (CBSLA.com) — Homicide detectives Friday investigated the circumstances surrounding the deaths of an adult woman and her small child in Willowbrook.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, deputies were sent just before 10 p.m. Thursday to the 300 block of West 124th Street for report of a car on fire at Athens Park.

Upon their arrival, authorities located an SUV fully engulfed in flames.

Los Angeles County firefighters extinguished the blaze and located two people inside of the vehicle.

According to witnesses in the park, an adult woman was standing with her small child, believed to be between 3 to 4-years-old, near the car.

As the car was burning, the woman repeatedly exited and entered the vehicle.

At one point, she placed the child into the burning car and climbed in as well.

Deputies said people in the park yelled for her to get out of the car but she ignored them.

The woman and child were overcome by flames and were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities are being withheld pending family notification.

Detectives are investigating the woman's motive for killing herself and the child.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
