Mayor On Being Named As Potential Clinton VP Pick: 'I'm Not Looking For A New Job'

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti downplayed reports Thursday he may be on a short-list of possible vice presidential candidates for presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

A Wall Street Journal report named Garcetti - along with Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren and U.S. Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-Los Angeles) - as potential VP candidates for the Clinton campaign, noting that the process is still in the vetting stages.

Speaking on KNX's "Ask the Mayor" program, Garcetti said he's committed to running for re-election as mayor, and says he has not had any
contact with the Clinton campaign regarding a possible spot on the ticket.

"I think it's probably one story of thousands we'll hear on things like this," Garcetti said. "And I guess I'm a little old-fashioned. I'm not looking for a new job. I have a great one right now, and that's being mayor of the city.

The mayor went on to explain regardless of the nominee pick, he would be supporting Clinton come November.

"I've worked hard to make sure that we get a president who is going to be responsive to our cities so things we do -- whether it's rebuilding
infrastructure, turning around education, solving our traffic, dealing with homelessness, keeping our cities safe -- that that is first and foremost on the agenda of the candidate I'm supporting, Hillary Clinton," said Garcetti.

Bill Carrick, Garcetti's campaign strategist, told City News Service he has "no idea" where the Clinton campaign stands on the vice president
vetting process.

"We know nothing about it," Carrick said.
