UC Irvine Police Announce Arrest Of Indecent Exposure, Burglary Suspect

IRVINE (CBSLA.com) —  UC Irvine Police have announced the arrest of a man accused of indecent exposure and burglary.

Officials said Ryan Chong, 34, of Costa Mesa, was arrested approximately 2 p.m. Friday.

The arrest was made without incident in Irvine, and it came after members of the community responded to an alert sent by police asking for the public's help.

The alert included a photograph of the suspect taken by the alleged victim, a student.

The unidentified student told police he heard a man in his living room, Police believe Chong entered his residence through a locked door Wednesday evening. The student said that when he confronted the suspect, he exposed himself and then attempted to flee. The student was able to capture the man's image on his phone. Police used that photo in their alert.

The police received several   calls identifying the suspect. Chong was booked at the Orange County Jail where bail was set at $20,000.

Police said they wanted to thank the UCI community and the public for their assistance in identifying the suspect.
