Watts Eatery LocoL Named As One Of 'Food & Wine' 2016 Restaurants Of The Year

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Food & Wine Magazine unveiled its second annual list of restaurants of the year, and South Los Angeles' own LocoL graced the list this year.

The magazine's pick will be featured in the upcoming July issue as one of the ten best new places to eat in America.

Food & Wine Magazine's editor Nilou Motamed discussed Wednesday morning on CBS News about the selection process, and what made this L.A. eatery stand out.

Motamed says "the two chefs Roy Choi and Daniel Patterson (both former F&W Best New Chefs) teamed up together to create something that they hope will  revolutionize the fast food industry."

"This is not fast food the way you normally think about it, this is kinda healthy fast food," said Motamed. "No soda, no French fries, they are just sneaking tofu and healthy ingredients into things like cheeseburgers."

LocoL is found in L.A.'s under-served Watts neighborhood, where the restaurant employs and trains people from the community to run the operation.

The most expensive items on the menu are the $6 bowls, which include a variety of options such as noodles, tofu and veggie stew, beef and chili.

LocoL is located at 1950 E. 103rd St. in Los Angeles.
