Man Caught On Camera Vandalizing Newhall Storefronts

NEWHALL (CBSLA.com) — Security video caught a man vandalizing at least nine businesses in Newhall late Saturday night.

The man in his late 20s was seen scratching up storefronts along main Street and Lyons Avenue.

"He walked from one business to another, scraping the glass," said Shirley Miller, spokeswoman for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station.

Roy Coe said when he opened his bike repair shop Monday, he saw his front window scratched up. "I did a quick browse through the neighborhood, and most the storefronts got it. If you start adding up the loss, it's pretty big."

The business next door, Brake Masters, was also scratched up.

Deputies said they believe only one person was responsible for the vandalism, which could be gang-related.

Coe estimated it will cost about $1,000 to repair his window, money he said he did not have. "Everybody's outraged. It's like we work hard. I'm the last man on the totem pole to get paid."
