Canyon Country Man Arrested In Connection With Deadly Hit-And-Run Collision
SANTA CLARITA (CBSLA.com) — A 28-year-old man was in custody Saturday for allegedly fatally striking a bicyclist with his vehicle.
Lucas James Guidroz, of Canyon Country, surrendered shortly after 3:15 a.m. Friday at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station, according to California Highway Patrol officers.
Guidroz was booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run in the death of a bicyclist, Valencia resident Roderick Bennett, 53, in Santa Clarita.
According to deputies, Guidroz struck Bennett with his 2014 Lexus CT200h SUV around 4:40 p.m. Wednesday on Placerita Canyon Road just east of the 14 Freeway.
Paramedics pronounced Bennett dead at the scene. He was a math teacher and a band director at Arroyo Seco Junior High School in Valencia.
At this time, Guidroz remains jailed in lieu of $50,000.
He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday at the North Valley Superior Court in San Fernando.
