Disturbing Video Of Brutal Beating Of Student At Local School Surfaces

SOUTH LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A brutal beating at a local high school was caught on video.

Cellphone video shows a boy repeatedly being punched and thrown against the concrete at Mervyn Dymally Senior High School.

The mother of the 16-year-old boy who was beaten says she is furious and also frustrated by how school officials were handling the situation.

She says the fight happened earlier this month at the school and was captured on video by a student, who posted it to Facebook.

The mother says her son was walking to class with some other boys, who he was not well acquainted with.

They allegedly demanded he give them money. When he wouldn't, she says that's when her son was attacked by one of them.

The mother says she took her son to the hospital. Though he did not suffer any serious injuries, she says he is now afraid to go back to school.

Officials with the Los Angeles Unified School District said they are investigating the incident.

It's unclear what, if any, disciplinary action has been taken against the student involved in the confrontation.

The mother said she plans to meet with school officials Thursday.
