Moving Prince Tribute Concert Held At LA City Hall

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A tribute concert was staged at Los Angeles City Hall Friday in memory of Prince.

The free event was scheduled to take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the Spring Street side of City Hall.

Attendees were also able to watch the concert from Grand Park.

Performers included Stevie Wonder (a surprise guest), Eric Benet, Faith Evans, Kenny Lattimore, and members of Prince's former band New Power Generation and The Time, which starred in his movie "Purple Rain."

KCAL9's Crystal Cruz said the crowd was definitely moved and many came in purple (hair, lipstick, eye shadow, clothes, hats, skirts)  ready to party.

Prince shot his "Diamonds and Pearls" video in front of City Hall so it was fitting for the city to hold a tribute to him there.

The fans knew it, too.

"That this is the location, it just adds a special element to the event," said fan Amy Mullett.
