LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — To the surprise of no one, people claiming to be heirs and relatives to the late Prince fortune are coming out of the woodwork.
An LA-based firm says they have established at least two claims that appear to be legitimate — including a man who says he is Prince’s biological son.
KCAL9’s Rebecca Ferriter looked into the claims.
On the 15th floor of a Los Angeles high-rise is Heir Hunters International.
The company uses genealogy and paperwork to establish connections to people, in this case the legendary rocker.
Prince’s net worth is estimated to be around $400 million.
A Minnesota man in his 30s, claims his mother had a brief relationship with Prince in the 80s.
“The children will inherit and that’s it, so it’s a big deal if it turns out to be him,” says Shar Mansukhani of Heir Hunters.
Mansukhani and John Hilbert, founders of Heir Hunters International, say the man’s backstory adds up.
Paperwork filed by Prince’s sister, Tyka Nelson, says the singer didn’t have a will.
“Now what piqued our interest is that she asked the court to conduct an heir search,” said Hilbert.
“Traditionally you don’t see a request for an heir search unless there’s a suspicion that there are heirs out there,” Hilbert said.
A Minneapolis teenager, meanwhile, claims to be Prince’s grand-niece.
She and another who claim to be a grand-niece could inherit million.
Hilbert says his firm has been inundated with calls and emails. So what do they require?
“A copy of birth records and details description of why you are Prince’s heir and don’t start off the first sentence with I spent my entire life in prison.” Hilbert laughs.
If their clients’ claims are verified, Heir Hunters International will receive a consulting fee.
