The shooting unfolded around 9:00 p.m. Wednesday in the 2500 block of 5th Street, according to the San Bernardino Police Department.

Officers were working in an unmarked unit in an alleyway when the suspects opened fire on them.

When the officers exited their vehicle and returned fire, the suspects ran and climbed a wall into the property of a hotel.

The three men ran through the parking lot and encountered several officers in a marked patrol car.

A second officer-involved shooting subsequently occurred.

One of the suspects was struck by gunfire. An update on his condition remains unclear at this time.

Authorities arrested one of the men as he tried to enter a motel room, and the third suspect was taken into custody at a nearby mobile home park.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
