Railroad Track Crossing Arm Pierces School Bus Window In South LA
SOUTH LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A school bus carrying eight special needs students has been damaged by a railroad track crossing arm in South Los Angeles, firefighters said Tuesday.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the collision occurred shortly after 7:30 a.m. in the 1700 block of East 55th Street near Long Beach Avenue.
Upon their arrival, authorities learned a train track crossing arm went through two windows of an occupied First Student bus. It did not touch or harm any children.
Firefighters walked each child from the bus to a nearby sidewalk while crews worked to remove the crossing arm.
A preliminary investigation revealed the bus made a left hand turn across the railroad tracks when the crossing arm began to come down on the tracks.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
