Man Dead, Woman Seriously Injured In Highland After Being Caught In Crossfire Of Dispute

HIGHLAND (CBSLA.com) —  A man was killed and a woman seriously injured when they apparently got caught in the crossfire of a dispute.

Deputies from the Highland Sheriff's Station responded to an apartment complex Saturday morning following the report of the shooting.

The shooting took place in the 25900 block of Baseline Avenue around 10:30, authorities said.

Upon arrival, deputies located Highland residents Kirk and Donna Savala, both suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both victims were transported to the hospital. Despite lifesaving efforts, Kirk, 52, was pronounced deceased at 11:57 a.m. Donna, 50, sustained serious injuries, but is expected to survive.

An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.

Authorities do not believe the Savalas were the intended targets. It appears they were in close proximity to a dispute between others and were inadvertently struck by gunfire.

Those involved in the dispute, fled the area and are at large.

A man on Facebook named Kirk Savala says he's a Clippers fan who has been married "for 28 years. I have ten grandkids and life is good."
