EAST LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities in East LA are looking for a suspect who has attacked two people, unprovoked, with a hammer-type weapon leaving them both with serious injury.
The cases involve a single suspect striking two victims on two separate occasions on the same day without warning with a hammer-type weapon.
The first assault occurred on Friday, March 25, in the 1400 block of South Bonnie Beach Place. The suspect walked up to the elderly male and, without any warning or provocation, struck him with the weapon. When the victim fell to the ground the suspect also kicked the victim.
The suspect fled southbound on Bonnie Beach Place.
The suspect is described as a Latino, 40-45 years old, between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet all, heavy set, wearing a straw hat and blue wind breaker jacket.
The second assault took place on the same date a few hours later in the 4400 block of Triggs Street, officials said.
In this incident, he suspect attacked a female adult without provocation. The suspect struck the victim with a hammer-like weapon several times about the head. The woman immediately fell to the ground and became unconscious.
Witnesses in this attack described an almost identical suspect as in the first incident except for a change of clothing.
Both victims in these incidents were transported to local hospitals and are listed in serious condition.
