1 Killed In Collision With Garbage Truck Near Cal State LA

EL SERENO (CBSLA.com) — One person was killed after a small car collided with a garbage truck near Cal State LA.

The crash happened at about 6:24 a.m. in the 5000 block of Alhambra Avenue, near Druid, according to Margaret Stewart with the Los Angeles Fire Department. The driver, 21-year-old Jesus Padilla of Los Angeles, was pronounce dead at the scene.

The driver of the garbage truck was not hurt.

According to police, Padilla was going at least 50 mph as he was passing another car when he lost control of his 1991 Ford Mustang and swerved into the path of the privately-owned trash truck. The Mustang was struck broadside on the passenger side.

Investigators say it didn't appear drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.
