Pilot Pulled From Ultralight Plane Wreckage Pronounced Dead
HAWTHORNE (CBSLA.com) — A female pilot pulled from the fiery wreck of an ultralight plane in full cardiac arrest was pronounced dead at a hospital.
The unidentified pilot had crashed into a tree at about noon Monday in the 3600 block of West 120th Street, authorities said.
Crews put out the flames and freed the woman – who was in full cardiac arrest -- from the plane, county fire Capt. Keith Mora said. She was taken to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
The aircraft was an Airborne XT-912, a light-sport, weight-shift-control plane, according to the Federal Aviation Administration's Ian Gregor.
The crash happened about a quarter-mile off the west end of the airport. The pilot was the only occupant aboard the aircraft.
The roadway was closed for several hours to allow investigators to access the crash scene.
The crash is under investigation by the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board.
