Second Inmate Death Reported In As Many Days

CASTAIC (CBSLA.com)  —   A second inmate has died in as many days inside a LA County jail.

Homicide detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department responded to North County Correctional Facility in Castaic Sunday morning to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of an inmate.

At 7:05 a.m Sunday.  deputies were alerted by inmates that another inmate in their dorm was having a seizure. Facility medical personnel were summoned to the inmate's location. While the inmate was being transported to the infirmary he became unresponsive and Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics were called. Paramedics were unable to revive him and they pronounced him dead at the scene.

Gordon Rowell, 33, was found unresponsive in his jail cell Friday morning at the California State Prison in Lancaster. The cause of his death is pending an autopsy. On Saturday, officials said his death was "suspicious."

The cause of death of the inmate in Castaic will be determined at the completion of an autopsy. The identity of the inmate is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
