70-Story-High Glass 'Skyslide' Installed At U.S. Bank Tower

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Attention thrill-seekers: The downtown Los Angeles skyline is about to get more exciting, and possibly a little scary for anyone afraid of heights.

The U.S. Bank Tower, the tallest building west of the Mississippi River, is getting a scream-inducing new tourist attraction called Skyslide.

Installation of the attraction was underway Saturday, as a helicopter attached the 45-foot-long glass slide to the skyscraper, some 1,000 feet above the ground.

The slide will allow brave souls to slide from the 70th floor down to the 69th floor on the outside of the building.

The slide will give sliders quite the view down. The slide is made entirely of clear glass, 1 1/4-inch thick. When riders finish the slide, they will emerge onto an open-air, 360-degree observation deck on the 69th floor. An upscale restaurant will also be added on the floor above.

It will cost $8 to ride the slide, in addition to a $25 admission fee to the observation deck. A grand opening was planned for June 25.
